RESPECT RIGHTS AND CHRISTIAN VALUES TO END CONFLICTS

Respect for human rights and having good Christian value are key elements in achieving peace in Bundibugyo. This was mentioned by Ms Margret the area councilor of Kasitu Sub County during the sensitization meeting of the community on conflict prevention and management and human rights violations on 12th august 2016. Kasitu is one of the sub counties that have been affected by conflicts either because of its location and having citizens from all ethnic tribes (Bamba, Babwisi, Bakonzo, Banumwa and Batwa communities).

The sensitization meeting was mainly for residents of Bundimasoli and new created Ntandi town council. These are area that from time to time is affected by every conflict that occurs. The participants mentioned that conflicts in the area are results of false information being spread and from specific people whose interests the community has failed to understand. Some of the false information are related to cultural institution owning land, people who don’t subscribe to certain cultural institution to be wiped out of Bundibugyo. Individual interests have been linked to Government institutions, where people claim to have been sent by certain individual from government.

The LCIII chairperson of Kasitu s/c Mr. Musema agreed with the community views and analysis of the actors and causes of conflicts. He said this is the time to amend the situation and avoid listening to those “shallow minded individual disorganizing the community”.
