BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THE POLICE AND THE COMMUNITY.

It was 2nd February 2014 when the first get together party was organized at Uganda police Fort-portal barracks   by the DPC- Kabarole barrack police station under the them bridging the gap between the police and the community in Rwenzori region.   The police being the arm of the government that enforces law and order, discipline, peace, unity and justice, they organized this event to  exchange ideas with political leaders, religious leaders, local leaders, community based organizations like Rwenzori Information Centers Network (RIC-NET),Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) DAJ communications and community members as whole.  Different speakers were invited to this event to exchange their ideas and views with the community and the police workers.

Hon. Alex Ruhunda encouraged the wives of the police men to start small income generating activities to meet family needs other than waiting up on the government salary for police men because salary payments of the police may delay some times yet family needs must be met daily. He also encouraged them to save for their families the income generated from that small business by forming groups and opening saving accounts in SACCOs and financial institutions in the Rwenzori region. He also asked those who had organized the event to always do it annually to continue building up ideas, affections and love for development.

Hon. Richard Rwabuhinga Chair Person LCV – Kabarole District asked the community members to always respect and appreciate the work done by the police especially Tax drivers who usually overload people and corrupt police men with two thousand (2000=) or five thousand (5000)Uganda shillings to  allow them have access number of people in 14 passenger vehicle. When respect is observed, then we shall live at peace with every one.

Dr.K.L Dickson, senior pastor Kabarole Christian Fellowship cathedral shared that it’s only in Christ Jesus where all of us find the peace which the world can not give us because Jesus Christ is the prince of Peace, his leadership is full of grace and truth John1:17, the whole world was created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things consist. Colossians 1:16-17.  He is a special gift that was given to the whole world to bring peace and reconciliation.   When you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, every thing you do, you do it with the fear of God your creator to produce expected results, No corruption will keep in your life since you have the Incorruptible seed of God in Your life. With Faith in God our country be will be transformed into transparency, peace and harmony as long as we keep in the word of God as our motto says “For God and My Country”. He asked them to believe and trust in God our creator through his son Jesus Christ, the source of our peace. Romans 16:20

Hon. Stephen Kaliba- Prime Minister Toro Kingdom shared with community and the police that sharing love and joyful moments of our Lord Jesus Christ in a gathering itself bridges the gap among the people of God since gave us only one commandment of Love. When we love each other, no conflicts, quarrels, accusations will come up because love does not look at the wrongs and does not keep a record of wrongs.  He encouraged them to keep living and sharing together in the Love of God.

Prof. Edward Rugumayo Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) the Guest Of Honor appreciated the work done by police in Rwenzori region as far as enforcing Law and order is concerned through detecting and preventing crime, investigating and taking actions on criminal cases presented to them by the community among others. He noted that with that great work being done, the police workers must be visible not only being identified by their clothes, buildings but also their offices must have a Uganda flag to I identify that it’s a government barracks.  a clear and big sign post must also be there to guide and direct the community the exact place, stand by generator to supply electricity to the barracks even when electricity is off also must be there.  So the government workers, and political leaders present on the event were asked to work together with the police to ensure that all the above mentioned structures are put in place for fairness and transparency of activities in Rwenzori region.

Conclusively  it was agreed that  to  bridge the gap between the police and the community  will take apportioning  the burdens complementary not competitively, observing leadership discipline in every thing we do like avoiding corruption, acting in a simple, kind manner,  using a convincing language other than  commanding language, fixing your eyes and mind first on good things  one has done than concentrating on  mistakes only that person has done, and above all acknowledging our creator through Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our Faith.
