RIC-NET JOINS KYEGEGWA TO CAMPAIGN FOR BETTER EDUCATION

In an effort to improve the education standards in kyegegwa District, the kyegegwa Town council officials have organised a one day education conference to discuss the challenges in education of the District and draw strategies for improved education performance in schools.
The Education conference will take place on 30th July 2014 at the community Hall with several participants from the community, political representation,Educationists, civil servants a nd CSOs.

 

RIC-NET as a partner in Education amplified the preparations For the D-day with a one Hour talk show at Life Fm on 24th july  hosted by the Programme manager RIC-NET  Ms.Kyomuhendo Joselyne, the Mayor kyenjojo town Council and the Assistant Town Clerk Mr.Mwesige Hussein.As part of  her wider education programs RIC-NET has supported  schools and teachers with ICt enabled learning to break the monotony of talk and chalk, mentoring of girls in secondary schools through partnership with CEDA International,school dropouts and young  Girls in conflict affected areas  supported with  counsellingVocational skills, ICT training where some have  already got employed in secretarial Bearues and others owning their Business. RIC-NET would like to continue with amplfying the citizens voice in areas of Education in the whole region, as it was realised in the radio talk show the community needs continued sensitisation about packing lunch for the children , provision of scholastic materials and the Education conference which brings together different stakeholders to discuss regularly on  the wayforward  in Education . kyegegwa Town will hold its first education conference on 30th wednesday 2014 and among the guest speakers is the Education consultant Mr fagil Mandy .

RIC-NET CARRIES OUT INTERVIEWS FOR CONFLICT AFFECTED GIRLS IN KASESE DISTRICT.

Rwenzori information centers Network (RIC-NET) received a one year grant running from June 2014-June2015 from Global Fund for Children to support conflict affected teenagers and skill the young girls or mothers who have dropped out of school.

The project is implemented by RIC-NET and it focuses on offering a range of capacity development services or tailor-made training for youth with age “15-30”, skills development and entrepreneurship for dropouts and practical skills to training for graduates of institutions. 

The project targets skilling School dropout Girls, Conflict affected School girls or who need to be in School, and unlock potentials of poor youth.

RIC-NET carried out interviews on 28^th July 2014 at Bwera information centre and Busongora Rural Information Centre all in Kasese district.

The interviews were meant to select girls who would benefit from the project. A selection criteria of the project beneficiaries is: The girl must be in serious vulnerability status and mostly having been in some way or another affected by conflict or war. A young lady between 15-30 years has a true & touching story from the experiences of the conflict or other form of severe vulnerability has a dream for the future and able to work towards that dream.

A case in point is:

Masika Deniise(1^st  left on fig. 2)23years who was left behind by her parents when they were running to free their lives from the ADF insurgency in 1996.she was left behind with her two siblings, a boy and a girl. The sister got lost and also the brother fell sick and died. Deniise later ran to Bwera after the outbreak of another ADF war in 1999 where she was taken by a good Samaritan to live with her. After she suffered mistreatment from the wife of the man who had secured her life and this forced her to run away and was taken up by some woman whom she lives with now.

The girls who were interviewed at Bwera information centre include: Muhindo Eunice, Masika Dennise, Biira Racheal, Muhindo Specioza, Mbambu Harriet, Mbambu Ritah, Biira Moreen, Muhindo Maombi, Kabugho Loice, Muhindo Sifa, Mbambu Grace, Biira Rosette, Muhindo Eresi, Masika Mary and Biira Harriet and those interviewed at Busongora  rural information centre were: Masika Esther, Muhindo Robina,Kabugho Everlyne and Mulhwahali Jovia

RIC-NET RECRUITS CONFILICTED AFFECTED GIRLS FOR SKILLS TRAINING.

A case in point is,

“Uwizeye Naume , Aged 20 years, she is an orphan who lost both parents during the ADF war, now staying with her step mother who is a peasant in Kihaara, Kasese district.  She  stayed in Kyangwali refugee camp and completed senior four in 2013 from Kyangwali SS Hoima  but could not continue with school due to lack of school fees. she is interested in gaining computer skills to start a secretarial bureau for herself.”

FOCUS- THE SECRET TO SUCCESS THROUGH LIFE

When Bill Gates first met Warren Buffett, their host at dinner, Gates’ mother, asked everyone around the table to identify what they believed was the single most important factor in their success through life. Gates and Buffett gave the same one-word answer: “Focus.”  

This can be expressed in two folds:

Deliberate strategy, where leaders develop a clear vision and map this unto a long, medium and short term goals.

Emergent strategy, where people respond to unanticipated problems and opportunities.

Here are three ways to combine both types of focus to ensure us getting the vital few things done.

1.Ask the right questions. Ask big questions about the fundamentals of your business.

2. In order to have focus we need to escape to focus. it is important to make space to escape in your busy life to study, reflect and think about the bigger picture.

3. Know how valuable your time is. “No matter how much money you have, you can’t buy more time. There are only 24 hours in everyone’s day...” 

Focusing on what is essential is a powerful ability, perhaps the most powerful in a world where we are so bombarded with distracting ideas, information and opinions.

RWENZORI INFORMATION CENTRES NETWORK VISITS SCHOOLS TO IDENTIFY CONFLICT AFFECTED TEENAGERS

Rwenzori information centers Network (RIC-NET)  has a received a one year grant from Global fund for children to support conflict affected teenagers and skill  the young girls/Mothers that  have dropped out of school.

At a school visit held yesterday 10^th July 2014 by the two staff of RIC-NET Kyomuhendo Joselyne and Charles kaliba in the two secondary schools of St. Charles s.s.s and St Theresa Girls School in kasese District, the school Administration welcomed the project warmly and promised to avail the necessary support to ensure that the young girls benefit from the project.

The visit was held to introduce the project, discuss with the school administration how the Children will be supported and when to Train the Women teachers   that will give regular counseling, psychosocial support, mentoring and Reproductive Health Education for the one year June 2014-June 2015

At Charles S.S.S, the staff interacted with the Director of studies Ms kabugho Verina and the Senior woman teacher Ms. Mbambu teddy the senior  Woman teacher  and the students of s.1,2,3,and 5 in an  assembly to orient them on the requirements for support on the project. The RIC-NET staff   mentioned that eligible applicants would submit a true and touching story of their experience with the war conflict and how it affected their life and also indicate what their dream for the future would be because the students will be mentored toward   fuilment of their dreams.

The RIC-NET team was at St. Theresa Girls secondary school also where they met the Director of studies Mr. Mayani Gerald and the teachers to introduce the project. It was agreed by end of day  that the students submit their applications to the Director of studies by 17^th July 2014.
