The journey started on 13th March 2013 with the
RIC-NET I.C.T team accompanied by another team from Foundation for Human Rights
Initiative (F.H.R.I) to the Ssese islands.
Speaking with the Deputy Chief Administrative officer in his
office shortly before the training, he welcomed the team to Kalangala and told
us to feel at home and that as the District they are in agreement with the
project and that they hope for the best out of it.
The two days training i.e 14th -15th
March 2013 covered a number of topics including fundamentals of I.C.T, website
and e-library management using content management systems among others.
The training that was held at the District headquarters
attracted District officials from the planning unit, probation and the District
Information Officer and F.H.R.I officials.
The trainees embraced all skills given to them and promised
to follow up on them and practice all that had been given to them.

Facts about kalangala
It wasn’t all about the training but also more other
interesting facts were found out about the land separated by waters.
Kalangala District is made up of 84 islands of which 64 are
habitable while the 20 are not with Ssese island being the biggest of all. It’s
a tourism center with a number of tourism attractions.
Kalangala is connected to the rest of Uganda through a ferry
that acts as a bridge and carries people from the island to the other
Districts.
Kalangala District has three secondary schools and over 20
primary schools and therefore the level of education is low. Some parents fear their
children going to school since they have to cross waters every time they go to
school and hence the dangers associated to that has caused many not to go to
school. A few who go out of kalangala for Education make it to the higher
levels.
