SOME GIRLS FROM SEMULIKI HIGH SCHOOL |
RIC-NET is seeking new applicants for the second
phase of the global fund for children project that targets conflict affected
girls both in and out of school.
These interviews for the second phase were carried
out at Semulki high school Bundibugyo district on 27th may 2015, where a number of 51 girls were
met and introduced to the project.
In addition to filling in the forms that were
developed from the new selection criteria, the selection team went further to
prove if what was indicated in the forms was true about the applicants. The
applicants were told to write a true story about how they were affected by the
conflict which the team will go ahead to verify and further verification will
be done by visiting the families of those applicants who will have gone through
the first verification.
The applicants were given an introduction about
the project, as a project that targets and aims at supporting conflict affected
girls with psycho social support and mentoring of the girls, counseling,
reproductive health and provision of scholastic and sanitary materials to
conflict affected in school girls.
The selection criteria for the new beneficiaries
was also read out for the girls and to the female teachers who were present so
as to understand it fully and a young girl must be falling in the criteria below:
Must be:
§ A
young girl aged 16-22 years
§ A resident of the
Rwenzori region: in the districts of Kasese, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo that have
been severely affected by rebel attacks and ADF war.
§ Have
been directly or indirectly affected by any rebel activities also the ADF war.
§ An
orphan with a real mother or father or both having been killed during the war
and has no source of stable livelihood or support for education.
§ She
was abducted during war, lived with rebels in the bush and later escaped.
§ She
was either injured and disabled or raped during war and now has a baby needs
support.
§ She
was left without guardian or parents and taken to a refuge or internal
displaced peoples (IDP) camps.
§ Has
a dream of continuing with school / acquiring vocational skills for self
sustainable livelihood.
§ Could
be in school or out of school
So, any young girl who fits in some on the
above criteria should contact a local leader in your area or information centre
near you or religious leaders or directly contact RIC-NET project officer.
